Consolation Prizes in a Crypto Lottery: What You Win When You Don't Win the Jackpot
You don't have to win the jackpot to get paid
Most people think of a lottery as all-or-nothing — either your numbers come up or you walk away with nothing. CryptoPot works differently. If your ticket matches 3 or more of the 5 winning numbers, you win a consolation prize paid in USDT, automatically, the same Sunday as the draw.
You don't need to claim it. You don't need to contact anyone. It arrives in your wallet alongside every other payout that week.
How consolation prizes work
After the Sunday 8:00 PM AST draw, one ticket is selected as the jackpot winner. The 5 numbers on that ticket become the winning numbers for the week.
Every other ticket in the pool is then automatically checked against those 5 winning numbers. If your ticket matches 3 or more, you win:
| Numbers matched | Standard week | VIP week |
|---|---|---|
| 3 of 5 | $10 USDT | $20 USDT |
| 4 of 5 | $20 USDT | $40 USDT |
| 5 of 5 | Jackpot winner — not a consolation prize | — |
A 3-of-5 match pays back your full entry fee. A 4-of-5 match pays double. During a VIP week, both prizes are doubled across the board.
What is a VIP week?
Occasionally CryptoPot runs a VIP week — a special draw where all consolation prizes are doubled. The jackpot structure stays the same, but every 3-of-5 match pays $20 instead of $10, and every 4-of-5 match pays $40 instead of $20.
VIP weeks are announced in advance. Keep an eye on the homepage and any CryptoPot communications to know when one is coming up — it's worth buying your tickets for that week.
What are the chances of winning a consolation prize?
With a pick-5-from-35 format, consolation odds are fixed regardless of how many players enter that week.
| Match | Odds per ticket |
|---|---|
| Exactly 3 of 5 | ~1 in 100 |
| Exactly 4 of 5 | ~1 in 3,060 |
| Any consolation prize (3 or 4 match) | ~1 in 95 |
Roughly 1 in every 95 tickets wins a consolation prize in any given week. That means:
- In a week with 100 tickets: expect about 1 consolation winner
- In a week with 200 tickets: expect about 2 consolation winners
- In a week with 500 tickets: expect about 5 consolation winners
These are expected averages — in any given week it could be more or fewer, but over time the numbers track closely to these rates.
Can you win a consolation prize and the jackpot at the same time?
No. If your ticket is drawn as the jackpot winner, any other tickets you hold that would have qualified for consolation prizes are voided — you already received the larger prize. Consolation prizes only apply to players other than the jackpot winner.
However, if you hold multiple tickets and none of them is the jackpot winner, each qualifying ticket collects its own consolation prize independently. Two tickets each matching 3 of 5 = two separate $10 USDT payouts.
Where consolation prizes come from
The weekly pot is split as follows:
- 80% → winners pool
- 15% → platform operations
- 5% → affiliate pool
Consolation prizes are paid out of the winners pool first. The jackpot winner receives whatever remains after all consolation payouts are deducted.
This means consolation prizes are always fully funded — they are not dependent on a separate prize pool or sponsor. As long as tickets were sold that week, consolation prizes are guaranteed for qualifying tickets.
A worked example
200 players enter. Total pot = $2,000 USDT.
- Winners pool (80%): $1,600
- 2 tickets match 3-of-5: 2 × $10 = $20 paid out
- 1 ticket matches 4-of-5: 1 × $20 = $20 paid out
- Total consolation payouts: $40
- Jackpot winner receives: $1,560
In the same week during a VIP week:
- 2 tickets match 3-of-5: 2 × $20 = $40
- 1 ticket matches 4-of-5: 1 × $40 = $40
- Total consolation payouts: $80
- Jackpot winner receives: $1,520
The jackpot barely changes — the difference is a few percent — but consolation winners double their payout.

The bigger picture
Consolation prizes serve a real purpose beyond just being a nice extra. In a weekly game where most players don't win the jackpot, having a roughly 1-in-95 chance of at least getting your entry fee back changes the feel of entering. You are not facing a total loss every week — there is a meaningful probability of breaking even or better on any given ticket.
Over time, a player who enters consistently with multiple tickets per week will occasionally collect consolation prizes that offset some of their entry costs. It does not change the fundamental odds of winning the jackpot, but it makes the weekly experience more rewarding for active players.
